What a Provider Will Likely Ask

Say you describe a door that stops halfway. Expect a few simple questions.

• What is the door doing, and when did it start?
• Did you hear a loud bang before it stopped?
• Is it a one-car or two-car door?
• How old is the door, and how old is the opener?
• Is the door stuck open or closed?

Photos or a short video can help. Do not try to lift a stuck door with a broken spring. That spring is under heavy tension.

Questions to Ask the Provider

A good provider will be glad to answer these:

• Is the quote in writing, and what does it include?
• Will you check track alignment and the cables, not only the part that failed?
• Are parts and labor covered by a warranty, and for how long?
• Can you handle emergency garage service if the door is stuck open?
• Do you hold the license or registration this area requires?
• If a new garage door opener makes sense, what will it cost for the model you suggest?
